GUITAR TUITION

Private Tuition

My private tuition takes place at my home studio in Cherry Hinton, Cambridge. With Covid restrictions soon being lifted I look forward to inviting all current and new private students to enjoy some long overdue face to face lessons.

Online Tuition

Every cloud has a silver lining. Over the last 12 months I've delivered 100's of hours of guitar lessons online. Sometimes it's easier to jump on an online lesson with me as opposed to travelling. Furthermore, you finish the lesson at home, with your guitar in your hands... Practice has never been so easy!

Workplace Tuition

I've seen great progress made from working students who halve their hour lunch break once a week to learn an instrument. If there's a handful of colleagues interested in learning guitar at work, I'll come to you!

School Visits

I've had the good fortune to teach in primary, secondary, high school and sixth from places of education. If you're involved in a Cambridge school that would benefit from having guitar tuition I'd love to hear from you

HOW I TEACH

I approach the way I teach the same way I started when I was 18. It’s got to be fun, engaging, and productive. It doesn’t matter how old are you, if you’re not enjoying what you’re learning then you’re not going to pick up your guitar to practice.

Frequently asked questions

I grew up as a huge lover of rock music, but my time at the Academy on Contemporary music sent me down so many rabbit holes of incredible musicianship. I try and incorporate all genres and styles of music into my teaching. Want to work on some sight reading? We might look at Jazz. How about improve your improvising? Let’s start with blues. Want to improve your song writing and chord knowledge? We’ll get the acoustic out!

Absolutely. I teach primarlily RockSchool but use ABRSM for any classical guitarists. I find grades particularly useful for goal setting and achieving accolades that can assist in achieving further education. Did you know a Grade 6 or above in the Rockschool syllabus adds points to your UCAS portfolio?

I do have a cancellation policy. I ask all students to give me a 48 hour notice should you need to cancel our lesson otherwise you will be charged. This is so I have a bit of time to replace your now empty time slot with another student.

Not a problem! I love collecting guitars and have a few that I’m more than happy to let students borrow. Acoustics, electrics, 3/4 size gutiars, I’ve got you covered. It might be worth investing in one after a few weeks of lessons though… How else might you practice!

The internets a wonderful tool that I use all the time. It’s got some incredible musicians on there that upload some of the best lessons i’ve had the pleasure of watching. It does lack that personal touch though. If I can see you’re doing something wrong, I can tell you and we can fix it.

My Students say

“I've had previous guitar lessons with different teachers and have found Nicks lessons to be much more enjoyable and beneficial. He has taken into account that I play drums and has really used that to his advantage when teaching me various strumming patterns. I've also benefited from Nicks theoretical understanding and am now in a position where I can play with other musicians and add creative input.
Dom Long
"Having picked up the guitar in my early 20's Nick was extremely helpful in identifying my goals and helping me reach them through very enjoyable lessons. Nick managed to cover a wide range of styles that I was interested in and really helped my playing progress over the last 2 years. I would definitely recommend Nick as someone who can help improve not only your playing but also theoretical knowledge."
Duncan hearn
“I owe all of my guitar success' to Nick. When he had started teaching me, I knew that I was going to do well. I was considering giving up guitar as the current lessons weren't working for me. However, he reignited my passion for it, and taught me a whole grade in half a year, which I passed with merit. He easily made complicated subjects simple, and allowed me to progress faster than most people. If you're looking for a good guitar teacher, you'd want Nick Manners."
Joe Taylor
“As guitar is becoming a second instrument of mine and I was all ready familiar with music theory, Nicks excellent musical knowledge meant he could explain in depth the technical relationships between chords and theory. Nick has also highlighted to me very useful songwriting techniques which I have been able to implement to improve as an artist.”
